It never ceases to amaze me that I feel as if the beginning of the new school year is actually the beginning of the new year! It's the unofficial New Year! School begins and summer ends bringing changing leaves, warm comfy sweaters and warm cups of apple cider and hot chocolate with friends. Maybe it's looking forward to that crisp snap in the air, or the wonderful gold of fall sunsets, but it always feel like rejuvenation for me. So, speaking of rejuvination, let's take a look at some great exhibits happening throughout the country on book arts! We celebrated the 10th anniversary of September 11th and with it Skillman Library at Lafayette College in Easton, PA has a great exhibit of artists' books dealing with this very topic! Diane Shaw, curator and director of Special Collections has gathered together a somber reminder through the book medium to commemmorate this historic event. On a lighter note, Bookopolis opens on Saturday, September 24th at the Asheville Bookworks, Asheville, NC with wonderful books on display from book artists all over the country. Selections will continue onto an extended exhibit through December. For info, google "Bookopolis"! Another great show occurring right now out in Santa Fe, NM at the Rotunda Gallery in the Governor's Mansion, Santa Fe, NM is the annual members' show of the Santa Fe Book Arts Group. For more info, google, "Santa Fe Book Arts Group" and the images will appear on the home page. Enjoy September and gather some leaves and press them in your favorite book! And, in December when the cold winds blow, you'll have some great reminders of Fall! Add Comment |
