This fall, the Williams Center Art Gallery at Lafayette College, Easton, PA opens with a great exhibit entitled "Crease, Fold, Bend" with works of art culled from fine arts, fashion, engineering and more.  This exhibit highlights the residency of Robert Lang who will be presenting a lecture on origami and mathematics on Monday, September 23rd.  Here is the blurb about the exhibit:
Crease, Fold & Bend
 Sept, 3 – Oct. 27
Origami, most popularly known as the ancient Japanese art of folding paper brings to mind popular images of whimsical cranes, horses, insects, swans. Who hasn’t experienced the childlike thrill of twisting and
contorting brilliant colored squares into small paper objects?
Crease, Fold and Bend presents a cross section of contemporary paper structures where science and math meet art between the folds. Moving beyond the traditional art form, contemporary scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and artists today are revolutionizing origami by expanding the practice. This
includes the engineering of architectural structures transposing mathematical equations and utilitarian objects into intricate paper forms. Using the principles of folding, creasing and bending, the groundbreaking investigations by these practitioners have resulted in the creation of tessellated and modular structures worldwide. Artists and fashion designers are using the mathematical forms of origami as an approach to designing books, clothing and art installations. The origami cranes of the past have emerged into kayaks,
shelters, tents, packaging and fashion design revolutionizing the art
form.

This is one of those must-see, will have fun exhibits that I can't wait to see.  Enjoy and Happy Folding in Fall!  If you want to see a movie that complements this exhibit, check out "Between the Folds" a documentary about how origami and mathematics is changing the way we learn and view our world
