Check out "Magic Books & Paper Toys: Flip Books, E-Z Pop-Ups & Other Paper Playthings to Amaze & Delight" by Esther K. Smith. This paperback is a simple, easy-to-follow book on exactly what the title states: magic books and paper toys. This is also a fun book for adult enthusiasts who love paper and books. Project descriptions and project illustrations are simple and straight forward. Check out Esther's other books as well which are sure to provide fun for hours for both children and adults. Another great book for summer projects involving book arts is Gwen Diehn's fabulous "Making Books That Fly, Fold, Wrap, Hide, Pop Up, Twist & Turn: Books for Kids to Make". Once again, directions are simple and straight-forward with directions for such classic book structures as the one-page book, the star book and the ox and plow. Her other books include "The Decorated Page" and "The Decorated Journal". These are great examples of mixed-media approaches that will inspire anyone with a passion for paint and paper.
And, if you need to kickstart your creative juices, check out the Center for Book Arts in New York, The Philadelphia Center for the Book in Philadelphia and other local art centers for summer classes for yourself!
